Education Foundation
The Theta Rho Lambda Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization established to support young men in the Washington Metropolitan Area in their college endeavors. The foundation is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes.
The purpose of the foundation is realized through three objectives:
Transform
Through fundraising, merit based scholarships are awarded annually to graduating senior high school students who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership, and community involvement.
Reinforce
By providing educational based programs and services, the goal is to offer young men in high school and college with information and strategies that facilitates success.
Lead
By equipping young men between the ages of 12 – 15 with skills to foster a sense of empowerment and self-esteem, while motivating them to make decisions about their goals and values, and act in ways that support their decisions.
The Theta Rho Lambda Education Foundation will host the 56th Annual Black & Gold Gala on Saturday, August 12, 2023.
With help from generous individuals and donors, the Black & Gold Gala will continue the tradition of supporting our scholarships and youth programs in the Washington Metropolitan Area!

50/50 Raffle The Theta Rho Lambda Education Foundation will be hosting a 50/50 raffle as part of its efforts to raise money for scholarships. If you are interested in purchasing tickets for the 50/50 raffle, please contact the education foundation directly or see a member of the chapter. You do not have to be present at an event to win.

Shoe Drive The Theta Rho Lambda Education Foundation is partnering with Funds2Orgs in a Shoe Drive to collect shoes and give them to underprivileged countries. Check your closets and those of your significant other and kids to see if you have any gently worn shoes that you are no longer in need of. We have a goal of collecting 100 bags (33 gallon bags, these can hold about 25 pairs of shoes each) of gently worn shoes. Any type of shoe is acceptable as long as it's not falling apart so sneakers, boots, high heels, men, women, and children shoes are also acceptable. People can collect the shoes in an appropriate bag then hand them off to the chapter at an agreed upon time or place. Also, if you know of a location where we can setup a donation box that can be checked regularly, please let us know about that as well. If you are interested in participating please contact the Education Foundation directly or see a member of the chapter. This shoe drive will be going from July 16 to September 16 so we have a solid 60 days to achieve our goal

Community Service Award
The Theta Rho Lambda Education Foundation honors those who are doing tremendous things that benefit the communities of Arlington and/or Alexandria, VA. The Foundation does this on a yearly basis to recognize and bring awareness to the outstanding leaders within the community.

Ross Cooper (2015 Scholarship Recipient)
Ross will be attending the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in the fall of 2016. He plans to major in Water: Resources, Policy, and Management in the College of Natural Resources and Environment. He attended the Gateway Program for minority students and felt like he found his home. He shared that he was impressed by the school, the research opportunities, the good food and the welcoming atmosphere.

"I am grateful to each member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc for making this happen for me. I am thankful to have experience every piece of the process because I never thought that I would've been able to be a part of the wonderful ceremony at the Black & Gold Ball when my counselor first told me about the scholarship opportunity. I've always been a hardworking student and a relatively good student, but I knew the other candidates and figured it was worth giving it a try. I happen to be the first in my family to attend college and not just any college, but, my number one choice. I want to attend a four year school, get my Bachelor's degree in Biology and continue into medical school or get into physician assistant school because i want to become a Physician's Assistant.
