On Friday, January 9th at 7:00 pm, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Theta Rho Lambda Chapter will be hosting our annual ONE NINE International Day of Reclamation event at Continental Pool Lounge in Arlington, VA.

We ask that all Brothers come out, fellowship, and invite any other Brothers you may know, regardless of their financial status.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Theta Rho Lambda Chapter, will host an Informational Seminar on Tuesday, January 6th at 7:06 p.m. at George Mason University (Mason Square), located at 3351 Fairfax Dr., Arlington, VA 22201, in Van Metre Hall, Room 467. All men who are interested in learning about membership in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. should RSVP and register no later than Sunday, January 4th, 2026, by emailing membership@thetarholambda.org. RSVP is mandatory for admission.

We were also honored to recognize Bro. Lauren Ellison (@ren_je) for being our 2025 Rising Brother of the Year at our 58th annual Black and Gold Gala, hosted in conjunction with the @wtsyphaxfoundation.

Bro. Ellison was raised in Indianapolis, IN, and attended Florida A&M University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He also attended the University of Mississippi, earning his Master of Business Administration. Bro. Ellison serves in the United States Navy and is currently the Executive Officer onboard USS GERMANTOWN (LSD 42).

In his career, he has been deployed numerous times around the globe, taught at the collegiate level, recruited officers for the United States Navy, and organized community service projects. Bro. Ellison is a Spring 2024 initiate of the Theta Rho Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He has served as co-chairman of our Community Service Committee and Master of Ceremonies of our Chapter's 60th Charter Day Luncheon in December 2024. Bro. Ellison has been a valuable addition to Theta Rho Lambda.

Bro. Ellison is married to his wife, Sierra (🔺) and they have two young children.

As we continue to look back fondly on our 58th annual Black and Gold Gala, hosted in conjunction with the @wtsyphaxfoundation , we would like to take a moment to spotlight a few more of our honorees from that incredible night.

#trlball25 Community Service Award winner spotlight:

Ms. Cheryl D. Butler serves as Director of Student Recruitment and Scholarship Fund at Hopkins House Preschool Academy.

Originally from New York City, Cheryl D. Butler earned her master’s degree in communications from Howard University and made the Washington, D.C. area her home. Passionate about connecting families and educators, she served as Community Liaison at Drew Elementary School in Arlington Public Schools and later joined The Gathering Place Church, where she co-leads Community Saturdays serving neighbors in need.

As Director of Student Recruitment and Scholarship Fund at Hopkins House Preschool Academy, Cheryl continues her mission of outreach and partnership, fostering programs that uplift children and families. Her leadership reflects compassion, faith, and a steadfast commitment to community service.

We were honored to recognize her for her outstanding work in the community and continued partnership with Theta Rho Lambda!

Prior to serving as our 24th Chapter President from 2021-2025, Bro. Laing served as our 2019 Black & Gold Gala Chairman and Vice President from 2017-2019. Bro. Laing is a Spring 2007 initiate of the Eta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., which is seated in Atlanta, Ga.
