Continuing our bi-weekly ΘΡΛ brother spotlight series we are pleased to highlight our current Financial Secretary & Chaplin Bro. LeVar Crooms (@levarcrooms)

Bro. LeVar Crooms was initiated into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in March 2005 through the 36th House of Alpha seated at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte NC. Affectionately known as the “Mother Chapter of the Carolinas,” the Alpha Omicron chapter is the first chapter chartered in the Carolinas and celebrated its centennial charter day celebration in the Spring of 2023. Bro. Crooms joined the Theta Rho Lambda chapter in 2018. He currently serves as the chapter’s Financial Secretary and Chaplain. In these capacities he Chairs the Budget and Finance Committee as well as the Brothers Keeper committee. He served on the Dr. William T. Syphax Education Foundation from 2019-2023 and held the positions of Secretary and Vice Chairman. As a member of the foundation, Bro. Crooms co-chaired the 2022 Black & Gold Scholarship Gala that raised approximately $14k.

Bro. Crooms hails from Raleigh by way of Beaufort, NC. He graduated with honors from Johnson C. Smith University in 2006, earning a Degree in Business Administration.

Crooms currently holds the esteemed position of Market President at United Bank. In this role he leads the Arlington & Alexandria, VA market, one of the largest in United’s footprint, with over $1 billion in loans and $1 billion deposits. The market is comprised of nine United Bank locations and 70 employees. Bro. Crooms career in banking goes back 18 years. Over the past decade he has financed over $2 billon of commercial real estate acquisition and construction projects in the Mid-Atlantic.

Bro. Crooms is a Board Member for Junior Achievement of Greater Washington and NAIOP Northern VA Chapter. His work in the community has led to him being named 40 under 40 honoree by the Washington Business Journal and the Leadership Center for Excellence in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

Crooms resides in Arlington, VA with wife Anshia and son Zachariah. He enjoys reading and traveling.

The Theta Rho Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is proud to be co-sponsoring a comprehensive dialogue on the political engagement and empowerment of Black male voters with @naacparlington, @naacpalexandria, @phinuomega_aka and @globalpfa.

This important panel will feature U.S. Representatives Bobby Scott (Virginia, District 3) and Don Beyer (Virginia, District 8), Virginia NAACP President Rev. Cozy Bailey, and more. The next few elections will determine the direction of our country and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

We need to listen to the issues and amplify the voices of Black male voters to make meaningful progress and strengthen our Democracy. Please join us on May 1st for this timely virtual town hall.

Continuing our bi-weekly ΘΡΛ brother spotlight series we are pleased to highlight our current Associate Editor to the Sphinx, Bro. Sivad Rogers (@sivadjamal) 5-ΘΡΛ-FA21.

Brother Sivad Rogers was born in Evansville Indiana by way of Rocky Mount NC. He attended the illustrious North Carolina Central University where he earned a Bachelor’s of Art in Visual Communications. He also received a Master’s of Professional Studies in User Experience Design from the Maryland Institute College of Art. He currently works as a Senior UX Designer.

Bro. Rogers is a Fall 2021 Initiate of the Theta Rho Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He currently serves as the Associate Editor of the Sphinx. He also serves as co-chair of the Community Service committee and design flyers, paraphernalia, and other assets for the chapter, area, and the Dr. William T. Syphax charitable foundation.

Bro. Rogers enjoys music, video games, anime, and emerging technologies. He also enjoys mentoring and helping the next generation of black designers.
